Connection
WITH
“What if the space between us was never empty — and connection is something you tend, not something you win?”
▶ Play nowPut your finger in the gap between two points of light. A line appears, a note resonates, and both things lean toward what you did. You never touch the things themselves — only the relationship. That is the whole game in miniature: the empty space wasn't empty.
Eight short wordless movements, each teaching one thing about being with someone and then quietly overturning it. Touch, where connection feels like winning. Boundary, where two creatures dim if you force them together and bloom at the right distance. Absence, where one figure leaves and its thread stays warm in your hand. An Other — something you did not create — that reaches back. And a closing storm you raise with a circling finger, gathering the scattered lights until they shelter together and hold on their own.
Nothing is scored and nothing is explained. How you were in each movement — patient or eager, holding on or letting go — is read from your play alone and composed into a small poem at the end, alongside a glyph that is a portrait of this particular time between you and the field.
Built with one canvas and the browser's own sound, no images and no words to read. Mobile-first, one finger. Best met quietly, with the sound on — though it reads identically silent.
Controls
- Move into the space between things — touch to attend, drag to change, hold to strengthen, release to let go
- Keyboard — arrows move a relationship cursor, Space holds, Enter confirms, Escape pauses
- Sound — a discreet toggle in the corner; the piece reads the same with sound off
- One movement asks a different motion — circle your finger (or the cursor) around and around to raise a storm that gathers what drifts
- Opens on a title screen — Start the piece, or step into the Gallery of poems, the Library of essays, or Sound; all also live in the pause menu. Eight short movements, about 12–20 minutes
Your progress
Your poems are kept. Every session you finish (and every one you leave unfinished) is saved on your device as a page in the Gallery — reachable any time from the pause menu — so you can return and read the poems your play composed. The palette of colours you accumulate and the character of the stranger you meet carry over too, so a return feels continuous; each visit still begins the seven movements afresh. No account, and nothing leaves your device (the guest book is the most recent ~60 sessions).
Accessibility
A one-finger, pointer/touch-first piece. It has a full keyboard path (arrows move a relationship cursor, Space holds, Enter confirms, Escape pauses) with visible focus rings, but a mouse-unplugged playthrough is not yet verified end to end, so keyboard is declared 'partial' for now. With reduced motion preferred, large transitions are removed while the core relational motion is preserved. All audio is synthesized live and never required — the piece reads identically silent.
